Falcons fielding trade calls for longtime QB Matt Ryan

A decision on Matt Ryan's future in Atlanta will come today.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Monday morning that the Falcons had made trading calls a few days ago focusing on the former MVP quarterback, with sources informed of the situation.

Today is the final deadline for Ryan, who will receive a $ 7.5 million list bonus when he becomes part of the team at 4 p.m. ET.

The quarterback list bonus was due to start on Friday, but he has agreed to postpone the day which should have been Tuesday when the Falcons are in the middle of chasing Deshaun Watson. With Watson arriving in Cleveland, Atlanta now has to decide the next course of action.

The bonus to be paid on Tuesday means that if Ryan is on the list today at 4 p.m. ET, the Falcons will pay for it.

So Atlanta's choice is to trade with Ryan and take the big money dead money, or he will return with the only club he knows 14 years in the NFL.

Rapoport added that the Falcons could add something interesting to Ryan's contract after accepting their relationship with Watson. Adding more fun to the deal already worth $ 48.67 million compared to the wage bill in 2022 will be like dipping three Girl Scouts cookies into a vat of chocolate syrup. But if you look at the way Ryan behaved a few weeks ago, he would have deserved more money for his problems.
